Research Focus

My current PhD research is focused on using photography as a tool for heritage education among high school students in rural Jamaica. This is important because there are many tangible heritage sites in Jamaica that can be used as catalysts for sustainable rural development via cultural tourism and the conservation of these sites. However, before this can take place, an assessment of the knowledge, attitudes and perception of these sites among residents needs to occur. This is especially important as many of the sites are a legacy of Jamaica’s slave and colonial history.
