Yusuf is community and local ownership driven environmental peacebuilding and mediation specialist. He is passionate about the environment and peace and has made several contributions to put action to his passion. Yusuf past studies included the Human Security and Governance Challenges of Flooding in Lagos State and Institutional and Compliance Frameworks and the Challenges of Environmental Awareness and Management in Lagos State. These projects which emanated from his masters and PhD studies are being translated to drive and promote Environmental protection and Human Security.
Yusuf has also been involved with violent extremism at the national level in Nigeria. in 2016, as a subject matter specialist, he supported the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in implementing the Countering Violent extremism (CVE) initiative sponsored by the European Union (EU).
Yusuf was elected Public Relations Officer and Treasurer of Young Water Professionals (YWP), Nigeria, an offshoot of the International Water Professionals (IWA) for two consecutive times. He currently coordinates the Doctoral students of the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan and runs an Academic mentoring Platform for post-graduate students in Ibadan. He also the incumbent General Secretary of the Institute for Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Oyo State Branch and the State Chairman of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Oyo State chapter.
Yusuf’s practice-based peace process has been far and wide around Nigeria. Some notable ones include his participation in a roundtable dialogue organised by the Institute for peace and conflict resolution Abuja on resolving the conflict between Tsare and Tsaragi Community of Kwara State and, the roundtable organised by the University College Hospital Ibadan (UCH) on resolving the conflict between laboratory technologist and resident doctors.
Yusuf has authored several publications on environmental dynamics, social transformation and peacebuilding in Africa. His vast experience transverses the civil society field with stints at international and national NGOs and participation in various humanitarian projects and currently serve as a Research Fellow for the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Nigeria.
Yusuf Olanrewaju has been recognised with many awards and certifications for his environmental and peacebuilding activities. As a community mediation specialist, he is a certified chartered mediator of the Institute for Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC). Olanrewaju holds a B.A. degree in Linguistics and Yoruba from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, M. A. in Peace and Conflict Studies and a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
